life, I always try my best to advance towards my expectations. I can achieve my goals. Even if I am not late for work today, I will feel a little sense of accomplishment, and most of the people around me do. As a consumer in the information age, there are too many needs that cannot be completed by oneself. For example, the bosses who can manually weld the bile machine are, after all, a small number. Most people still need to achieve their desired sound and experience through their own collocation. My portable player is actually very retro, that is, I hope to have a sound performance that can reach the portable machine originally envisaged by Guozhuan 10 years ago, and operate products that can keep up with the streaming media era. Feiao's recently released M17 can be regarded as helping me realize my dream.
, there were more than 10 functions of playing points with friends in the past. Now, M17 can basically meet the requirements: there is a smooth operating system, a clock management system composed of femtosecond crystal oscillator, a relatively perfect network playback support (including DLNA, airplay, etc.), a perfect Bluetooth support, a perfect shielded heat dissipation power supply system, etc. Let's start to share my experience slowly. The following text will be very long. I will share it according to the module and just look at the parts I am interested in.
Visual operation
M17 is user-friendly because there is no holster, which is good news for users who are too lazy to write comments. The DC adapter, leather leather case and fan base are attached at random. You can have everything you need once you open the box, and you can have a complete experience of M17.
, I think M17 is more like a computer case. Although the official propaganda is mecha style, the ambient light and thickness on the side always give me the feeling of ITX case. In fact, the size of M17 is good, mainly because the thickness of the body affects the impression. Personally, I don't think it is big, and there is no problem in holding and operating with one hand. So you said that if you classify it as a portable device, the thickness is not the same, but the volume of M17 is not a mobile device. This classification depends on the size accepted by the user.
frame and the volume knob is a major feature of M17. 12 RGB lights create a sci-fi atmosphere for M17. The light mode can set the default color by itself or follow the code rate change. The color will also be changed in different working modes. If you don't like to change, you can turn it off in the setting. Feiao player originally had a lamp ring design. I usually turn it off, but the M17 lamp area is larger and more recognizable, so I have been on all the time during use. After the rest screen stops playing, the lamp will also turn off and will not waste electricity. In the state of not turning on the screen, you can intuitively understand the working state of the player. I think it is both beautiful and practical. If you have any expectation, it will be more personalized if you can adjust the RGB color matching like the dazzling color of the computer host.
is a 5.99-inch 1080p display screen, and the top is four earphone connectors (6.35/4.4/3.5/2.5) and volume knob (potentiometer, not 360 degrees). On the left are up and down songs, play pause and customization, and on the right are switches and volume addition and subtraction. There is a switch on the left and right above the ambient light, the left is the HOLD lock (the lock range can be set in the setting), and the right is the battery/DC switch. At the bottom are two USB interfaces, a charging 3.0 and a HOST (output 5V2A) that can be externally connected to a hard disk, which is not impossible when charging treasure. On the left is the DC interface and on the right is the coaxial interface. In order to prevent dust from not commonly used interfaces and to make the whole machine simple, Feiao is equipped with three aluminum alloy dust plugs at the 6.35, DC power supply ports and coaxial ports. This dust plug also plays a certain protective role and I like it very much.
M17 is not as much as M11PLUS, but it is more retro. The knob on the top (M15 is the same as the ADC control method) and the key on the right can choose one (both provide 120-level volume adjustment). I personally prefer to use the knob, because the analog potentiometer feels really good, but the volume adjustment method needs to be modified to the key when using Fiio link adjustment, personally, I think this operation is a bit complicated. It is better to change it to M15 screen adjustment. If the system volume is inconsistent with the knob, it is easier to turn the volume knob to the minimum and then adjust it to restore it.
as a standard accessory is not tightly attached to M17. There is obvious space on the side. When the fan base dissipates heat, it can obviously feel that the wind comes out from the side again. In this design, I think, in addition to being easy to disassemble, it is to reserve space for heat dissipation, which will be mentioned later.
Android is a traditional advantage of Feiao, and its fluency is optimized very well. The holding operation varies from person to person, but it will definitely not be as good as the original M15/M11PLUS. As the keys are relatively high, there is no obvious difference between the keys and the leather case (the bare metal playing key has an identification point). It is possible to operate in the left area by mistake. It is recommended to use the function of the lock key to lock the operation so that it will not be touched by mistake.
circuit design
M17 is highly modular. Personally, I think this is a model of player precision. The digital board and the audio board are independent, a bit like the main board with a good frame, and each module is installed on the main board, with a high degree of functional distinction and heat dissipation and shielding considerations. In addition, the gold-sinking circuit board process ensures the basic electrical performance, the white ocean copper shield prevents internal radiation interference, and the VC liquid-cooled temperature equalization board used in the player for the first time ensures heat dissipation and product performance from various angles.
system board is the core board (Xiaolong 660, 4G memory, 64G memory and power supply chip) and the back of the Bluetooth communication board (QCC5124) is a DSP module composed of XMOS(XUF208) interface and FPGA plus two femtosecond crystal oscillators. The system board integrates the digital processing part, and the data reading and receiving ends are also on the system board. The data source is managed by a unified clock. This integration is necessary from the perspective of shielding.
audio version is mainly a power supply circuit. The super power supply capacitor on the front and the LDO on the back all exist to provide stable power supply. Two DAC modules and two earpiece modules (K9Pro same model) are respectively shielded by shielding covers. In order to parallel the center of the circle, the four earphone ports have added brackets to the audio version for positioning. This is the largest and most complicated portable audio circuit designed by Feiao, and there are many places worth mentioning.
there is a large-scale circuit, large-scale heat dissipation must be considered. Therefore, Feiao's design idea is also very clear. VC liquid-cooled equalizing plate is used to avoid heat concentration, metal heat conduction is used to isolate the battery and circuit board to prevent heat radiation, and then the heat is exported to the aluminum-digging frame. Careful use will find that the frame of M17 is hotter than that of the back plate when used heavily. The gap between the original leather case and the metal hollowing at the back are used, it is OK to guide the wind of the fan to the side and then discharge it to achieve the purpose of efficient heat dissipation.
, after reading the entire M17 circuit board, I personally remembered what Heluo's JEFF said: "To achieve high performance, the structure must be complicated. Don't believe in the statement of multiple incense burners and multiple ghosts, and don't believe in any simple fairy tales. To achieve high performance, you must reach a sufficient degree of complexity. This world is like this, and it must be costly enough to go further." My understanding of this complexity is that either the software is complex or the hardware is complex. The circuit is not the purpose, but the purpose of good sound makes the circuit complex. Although the complexity of software and hardware is ideal, the complexity of M17 in the portable field can be said to be unparalleled.
system module
M17 is Qualcomm Xiaolong 660 plus 4G storage. The balance of power consumption and performance of the 660 is the benchmark of the first generation. Although it was the flagship configuration a few years ago, it is still smooth enough in the non-heavy use scenario of the player today, which has been verified in many models including Feiao's own M11PLUS. Of course, if it matches the grade of M 170,000 yuan, I personally think it is more appropriate to configure it to 6G storage and 128 storage. However, Weibo said that it was a pity that supply chain considerations had not been realized. However, Feiao provides two USB TYPEC interfaces, and the one on the right is the HOST interface that can be connected to the hard disk, thus greatly expanding the body storage. With DLNA reading support, there can be more data reading sources.
system is Android 10, which I think is much better than Android 11 (11 does not allow access to system DATA files is really a mess), and compatibility with new applications will be more friendly, such as APPLE MUSIC. The added gyroscope realizes the random rotation of the screen, and the selection of working mode is more intuitive and convenient. It can quickly switch between Bluetooth reception, USB DAC, coaxial decoding, Ariplay, pure tone mode and Android mode, and the large screen also makes the display elements more.
In FiiO MUSIC application, I personally chose the default skin. In use, I found that the large cover skin is more suitable for 16:9 widescreen, but it is not very good for narrow screen display. I wonder if Feiao will optimize the 18:9 narrow screen like M17.
power supply module
M17 may be the most complicated power supply device in the player, involving two power supply modes and two power supply voltages. In low/medium/high gain and in big ear mode, the power supply voltage of the ear discharge circuit is 8V; In super big ear mode, the power supply voltage of the ear discharge circuit is 11.5V, reaching the voltage level of the machine. Of course, reaching the voltage level of the machine is nothing, and corresponding processing circuits are needed. Among them, how to maintain the power consumption and stability between each module is the key, which is also the purpose of modular design. Among them, the super DMF capacitor provides stable current for the overall power supply. In order to meet the 9038 high DC power supply requirements, the dac module adopts an advanced low dropout linear regulator (LDO) such as LT3045. In the ear placement part, AC power supply is required, and two different types of LDO are respectively guaranteed by the way that the SGM2211 is responsible for the positive electrode and the SGM2209 is responsible for the negative electrode. In terms of power supply, it should be said that every effort is made to provide low-noise power for all modules.
sound module
M17 is the largest circuit board in the machine. After the digital signal is received by the digital version and processed by DSP of FPGA, it is transmitted to the audio board for digital-to-analog conversion and amplification. 9038PRO decoding module (general module, this decoding module should be seen on K9 soon, and eight channels are processed in parallel with one channel) is decoded and then I/V conversion is carried out with OPA927 (Feiao Customization) (there is a chip vacancy on the module, which is not available for K9), LPF is carried out on the opa2211, and finally the THX AAA 788 ear release module is amplified and output.
if there is anything about M17 that makes people realize their dreams, it is that M17 uses the decoding module of the machine and the earpiece module, especially the earpiece module, which is the same model as K9Pro, and the amplifier circuit for the machine. The THX AAA 788 is jointly developed by Feiao and THX. The THX AAA amplifier circuit needs to be optimized by the manufacturer. The feedforward amplification module is composed of 5‰ precision resistance, 5% precision capacitance, opa1602 and TPA6120. This is a circuit that can achieve high power output and extremely low distortion. Feiao's 788 output power is 2 times larger than that of the original circuit. Even 300 ohm impedance on M17 can output 500mw of power. This circuit is very popular abroad, and Feiao is the most used circuit in China. The amplification module also needs to be given enough support. In addition to the support on power supply, there are 12 aluminum capacitors (looking like K9Pro) on the back of the audio version for filtering and energy storage to provide better dynamics for the ear amplifier. If it is taken out alone, the audio version of M17 is a reduced desktop decoding all-in-one machine made of precision originals.
in the process of browsing the circuit, my personal feeling is that the sound is not to say what one or two original supplements can do. It is the joint action of algorithm, clock, power supply, chip, resistor and capacitor. Each link is handled well, and the whole can be good. It is also under the joint action of power supply and modules that the maximum power output of the whole machine is 3000mw.
here is a matter of gain. This is the signal amplification factor. For example, 0DB with medium gain is no amplification factor,-6DB with low gain is 0.5 times amplification factor, and + 16DB with super big ear is 6.3 times amplification factor. This decibel (DB) and amplification factor are logarithmic. The gain of 16DB is big or small in the machine. From the actual hearing, the super big ear mode does not have the kind of sound impulse after too high gain. Personally, I think Feiao still considers the reasonable gain set later.
subjective hearing
M17 in the listening process is calmness, which stems from huge power reserves and abundant information. Based on good power supply, the M17 background is very, very clean, and there is no bottom noise at very low volume. There is a quiet sound background under the loud field created by sufficient driving force, which forms the basic sound frame of M17. In terms of sound, M17 focuses on sound restoration, which is relatively neutral and has a very good sound density. There is a very good reduction on the low frequency, and the reduction of low frequency diving, diffusion, positioning and attenuation is very good. The sense of quantity is moderate, and there is no excessive low frequency competition. The intermediate frequency has a good density, the vocal and musical instrument knot are centered, and it has a good sense of hierarchy and analysis. The presentation of details will not make people feel too uncomfortable while restoring the amount of information. There are obvious dental sounds on some collocations and songs. The intermediate frequency is dyed in some warm tones to some extent. The high-frequency response is very good, with a rare air feeling. The extended attenuation and light-dark contrast of high frequency are in place, especially the attenuation, which is too natural. However, if you are used to the type of medium-frequency energy concentration, you may feel that M17 will have some strong energy and line feeling at medium and high frequency.
in the super big ear mode, because the power reserve is further increased, when the switch is toggled to DC and the screen displays the prompt point Yes, there will be a very obvious feeling that the sound field will expand and the sound pressure will become stronger. At this time, the sound will have a feeling of scale expansion while the basic framework is unchanged. Hearing this mode, it is easy to go back.
's adaptation to music, the advantages of the front end of the restoration style with strong analysis and large sound field are reflected. Various types of music can be played back well. Under the premise of not turning on the playback gain (default setting, which can be turned on), the initial playing loudness of various types of tracks can be clearly felt, such as recent network hot songs and ACG music, which have high loudness, if you suddenly switch to old Hong Kong, Taiwan or classical music, you will find that the sound is much smaller. This sensitivity to playback loudness reflects M17's fidelity to playback to some extent. M17's grasp of micro-dynamics and sound details makes the restoration of the original sound and the classical sound in place, and the density of the intermediate frequency also makes the restoration of the popular sound integrity very good. It is not said that the sound is split because of the high degree of separation. The sense of atmosphere and the intermediate frequency junction of the sound are still very good, and the gap between various recordings can be faithfully reflected, and the level between the lead singer and the harmony. This kind of faithful restoration leaves enough room for the back-end headphones to shine. Whether to restore or dye is determined by the headphones.
is known as a machine, it must be compared with a machine. If compared with K9Pro, M17 in line mode will appear to have insufficient low-frequency dive and slightly smaller sound field, but the intermediate-frequency density will be better and the high-frequency will be more extended. JAMES replied on Weibo that it has 90% strength, and I personally think it is not aimless.
Sharing with collocation
is line power. If there is a need to drive the big ear or to achieve better results, please replace the DC adapter with a linear power supply. The self-contained adapter is a switching power supply. Even after internal processing of M17, there is still high frequency noise, which is manifested in the background is not quiet enough and the high frequency is relatively noisy. This situation can be greatly improved by replacing the linear power supply. After the line is connected, the sound will be clearer, the background will be quieter, the intermediate frequency level will be clearer, the low frequency will be more condensed and the high frequency will be brighter. Personally, I think it is worth putting in one more line of electricity to get a better experience.
I also matched several earphones myself, try the performance under different earphones, and then it is longer, just choose what I am interested in.
FH5S
must be Feiao's earphones. FH5S focuses on medium and low frequencies driven by M17, with the voice slightly behind, the background is relatively thick, the integrity is relatively good, the low frequency is fast, and the dive is shallow. Under the powerful analytical bombing of M17, the problem of insufficient quality of FH5S has been highlighted. This is a try, and the average person does not expect to match it this way.
FA9
was matched with FA9, I only turned on switch 1 (anti-group switch) to give full play to the advantages of moving iron analysis and low-frequency diving depth. The medium frequency density is high, the human voice density is high, and the sound field is also large. The performance is very good. The high-frequency switch is not turned on, and the performance attenuation is very fast. Generally speaking, it is suitable for popular style.
FD5
M17 is fully equipped with firepower. Even if I add three yuan, I think it is high. The overall performance shows the level that a high-quality moving circle should have. However, at the same time, it also feels a little too hard. The low frequency is slightly too much, the sound field is slightly small, the sound is slightly crowded, the slightly bright high frequency analysis is good, and some people may feel too bright. This depends on personal experience. Generally speaking, there are no shortcomings in listening to popularity.
FDX
Under the M17 high power reserve, this is the level of FDX's full performance. Instead of using big ear mode to push strongly, it is better to use medium and low gain to match, so that the sound impact will be smaller and more audible. Generally speaking, pure beryllium diaphragm requires too much current, and it is not a simple increase in voltage to solve the problem. FDX performance is very comprehensive, compared with FD5 sound more relaxed and comfortable, high frequency control is better, but the low frequency is still a little dive is not enough. Personally, I feel that this design is still not friendly enough to be carried with me. I still have to listen to it before I can judge it.
yintemei evo
In particular, the frequency response of this headset is only 16k. With M17, it can be said that its characteristics are fully displayed. EVO has excellent positioning, open sound field, weak low frequency and extremely high intermediate frequency density. It can be said that it shows the original fineness of human voice to you. Due to the frequency response limit, high frequency is dry and lacks freshness. It may also be that I did not wear it properly and the dental sound was slightly heavier.
EM5
, it should be said that this is my most common flat-headed plug, which is used when I work. EM5, driven by M17, improves the analysis of high frequency while maintaining the advantage of low frequency under the premise of the same integrity. For me, EM5 is a match with a wide range of applicable music. It is very light in weight and will not be tired after wearing it for a long time. The comfortable sound at low volume does not affect the communication with colleagues. Personally, I like it very much.
Khan
Khan is an earphone with slow speed, slightly stimulated high frequency and far suitable for original sound in medium frequency. The M17 is fully driven, and the characteristics of the earphone are reflected very well, especially the performance of the original sound is especially suitable for showing that kind of big scene track. What is more unexpected is that in the super big ear mode, Khan's intermediate frequency is driven very full, and there is a feeling that the HD800S drive is fully filled with intermediate frequency, but all need to be wired. I think this is a bit unreliable, which can only show that this plug has great driving potential.
bliss
bliss is also a high-end earphone, with poor high frequency performance, especially good intermediate frequency performance, high resolution and not tired listening, heavy reverberation at low frequency and difficult to push. On M17, the sound is pulled apart, the intermediate frequency density is still good, and the low frequency is condensed. It is a special earphone with personality.
VE8
VE8 is slow in speed, the intermediate frequency energy is concentrated, and the low frequency has a good texture in moving iron. M17 exerts the charm of VE8 intermediate frequency very well, has a highly recognizable sound experience, and has its own unique performance in listening to human voices. However, my intermediate frequency is a little thick. The M17 drive has brought this characteristic into play and given VE8 a good quality support.
VX
sound field with M17 is not large (larger than other front ends), but the analysis is extremely in place. The low-frequency dive and high-frequency extension are excellent. The overall sound is full, the density is extremely high, and the sound has excellent restoration degree. There is a pure beauty without staining. In terms of sound performance, I think it is the benchmark of moving iron.
IE800S
now because of IE900, it should be Mrs. Niu (laughter), which is actually one of my favorite moving headphones. With M17, the sound field has been greatly improved, the natural advantages of low frequency can be brought into play, and the original sound and symphony have a good atmosphere. The high frequency still decays fast, but the intermediate frequency is supplemented by M17, and the overall becomes more comprehensive.
Sage Stone
the low-frequency dive of this earphone is very good without diffusion, the overall sound is thin, the sound field scale is good, almost round, basically balanced, the intermediate frequency is a little paste, knot like forward, listening to popular will obviously feel sweet female voice, boys are thin, personal feeling is a very characteristic earphone, whether it is good or not depends on personal judgment.
M5
Under the combination of M17, I think it can be described as comprehensive and impeccable, which well explains what is the flagship level. The original sound of interstellar, which requires both large and micro dynamics, can also be well presented, and the overall performance is like a big ear. In this match, the front end gives full play to the advantages of the headset, and the headset also shows the support of the front end, which I think is a very good match. The potential of M5 can be further advanced in the super big ear mode of DC power supply, the sound field is further expanded, the sound is fuller, the details are more three-dimensional, and the expressive force is very strong, that is, the sense of line is relatively strong, which depends on personal preference.
I have no desire to open the big ear mode. Since there is a better super big ear mode, I have listened to it in the super big ear mode. I think the sound performance in this mode basically depends on the performance level of everyone's own machine. So I'm also talking about my feelings for reference only. By the way, M17 is also the only player I have so far used two MSB decoders as shock absorbers (laughs).
HD600
to be fair, M17 has driven HD600 to a relatively sufficient level, with full sound and full details in place and desktop driving level. The low frequency is powerful and the high frequency does not stimulate, and the intermediate frequency information does not feel empty. It presents the balanced and micro-paste sound and charm of HD600 very well, which is relatively rare. However, we must also face up to the gap. The overall sound is a little smaller than the shock absorber version below.
HD598
, it should be said that M17 saved my 598 of eating ashes. 598, driven by M17, I personally think that it has achieved full driving, full and powerful sound, and the sound is not as soft as the computer pushes directly, which is very energetic and three-dimensional. In my personal opinion, the low resistance and large ears of HD598 level still have more room for M17 driving force.
701
this is a very complete sound, the intermediate frequency performance is very good, the low frequency is also relatively strong, the sound is thicker than the 600, giving full play to the advantages of 701 own intermediate frequency, the knot image is clear, the singer's mouth shape can be clearly presented, the driving is relatively sufficient, and the overall feeling is very good.
HD700
I personally think that headphones are driven very well. If there are no other high-end systems to compare, I personally think that M17 drives HD700 very well and shows the advantages and disadvantages of HD700. Yes, a good front end should be able to show the advantages of headphones while also having spare power to show the disadvantages. In the performance of HD700, the large sound field, the gorgeous and detailed presentation of high frequency, the level and positioning of low frequency, the fullness and emotion of medium frequency all have very good reduction degree. Of course, the characteristic of HD700 that is easy to produce dental sounds is also shown, giving me a personal feeling that there is a high degree of completion.
HD800S
this match uses the latest batch of HD800S 75th anniversary edition. This earphone is the same as the latest batch of HD800S. Compared with the early HD800S, the sound field is slightly smaller but the intermediate frequency junction image is relatively front. Generally speaking, I think it is a more complete HD800S. When it comes to the flagship headset, the M17 still has bright spots. First, the sound is not empty and has enough sound pressure level. Second, the density is enough, the sound is not empty as a whole, the low frequency has a sense of strength, and the high frequency is powered by energy. However, compared with my own desktop system, there is still a gap in sound field and analysis, but this gap has to take into account the huge difference in price. I personally feel very satisfied.
Jinwu
I specially tried the performance of the Jin Wu at one end, the high frequency did not unexpectedly lose control, but in terms of balance, the Jin Wu was still driven in a good way. However, the sound is still thin, and the intermediate frequency performance is more obvious. The overall control of the high frequency is good. Personally, I think it is a good performance to control it. Based on the same reasons above, I am personally satisfied with the driving result, and my shortcomings are also shown. M17 still has to drive headphones with high current demand.
HEK V2
is also a current-eating earphone, coupled with a large area of diaphragm, the low frequency of HEK V2 has not been pushed out, there is no diving force, and the sound field is relatively crowded, giving people a feeling of not being fully driven. This is also an expected result. I am used to listening to the sound under the desktop system, and I will not adapt to it when I suddenly switch to a small computer, not to mention M17. Therefore, I said at the beginning that the driving degree needs to be judged by my own listening experience.
this circle is matched, I am personally satisfied with the driving ability of M17. It gives earplugs a high-level driving environment and quality base, and also has good performance in driving big ears in DC mode. This is the advantage brought by THX 788 low output resistance, with wide resistance adaptation ability and high power output.
a portable volume, with a sound performance that is not inferior to that of a machine, it can be well adapted to headphones with different resistance, and it is convenient to use. This is my satisfaction. Sound is the foundation of a player, and the quality provided by the decoding module at the machine level and the good sound created by the output provided by the earpiece module are the place where I realize my dream.
Sharing scenarios
M17 is mobility, which is especially suitable for people who have requirements for sound and cannot sit down and enjoy it quietly. For example, I always travel on business and have to watch children at home. It is difficult to have time to sit in the study and listen to the desktop system. Then an M17 with a clear modular design idea is appropriate. However, M17 has external heat dissipation and power supply components, which can be taken out of the house at ordinary times. When traffic jams occur, LO can be used to listen to the car. When the unit takes a lunch break, it can be connected to its own switching power supply to listen to HD598. When it comes home, whether it is in the living room or bedroom, it can be plugged in, after all, the mobility of the M17 is simply not too good compared to a desktop system that often costs a few kilograms.
M17 has several other working modes and uses. In addition to Android mode, other software can be used, pure tone mode can focus on music accidents, USB DAC can support DSD512 with NAIVE, Airplay and Bluetooth receiving modes can receive audio transmitted by mobile phones, and coaxial decoding mode can be connected to CD and or digital broadcasting for expansion operation. Because of the existence of the RCA standard coaxial port at the bottom, M17 completely said goodbye to the coaxial adapter. The standard interface has a more stable connection and has strong practicability.
M17 has single-ended and balanced double LO like M11PLUS, with a single-ended output voltage of 1.9V. It has excellent low frequency and details when used on the car, which is better than the sound source on the car. The balanced LO output voltage is 3.9V, which is basically the balanced output voltage of the standard machine. When I connect the ear machine, I can obtain very large loudness and sound pressure with low gain (I only have 1.97V desktop decoding leaving tears). The saying that the voltage on the common machine is quality is obviously reflected in M17, and it is not lower than the output of K9Pro in terms of amount of information and definition.
