FiiO DM15 (AKM)

The FiiO DM15 AKM represents a fresh take on a well-known device. The R2R version was—and remains—a highly successful option among CD players, though it favored a distinct tuning style characterized by a warmer, more organic presentation. In contrast, the AKM version retains a natural sound signature but leans significantly closer to tonal neutrality. The two versions complement each other perfectly, offering a choice that—in my view—is increasingly needed. Focusing specifically on the FiiO DM15 AKM, it is a mature, superbly crafted product. It delivers solid output power alongside a natural, detailed sound profile. It also functions as a USB DAC and supports Bluetooth connectivity. On the downside, I must note that despite its technical capabilities, the Bluetooth functionality is unidirectional—acting only as a transmitter rather than a receiver. I also missed support for high-resolution audio formats, and the lack of the LDAC codec is another drawback. However, aside from these minor issues, it is an excellent device that offers outstanding value for money. It is a fantastic choice for CD enthusiasts, but also for others, as it performs admirably as a DAC and features a balanced line output (LO).
