7.Why does "Lock" appear all the time on the E17K's display?

A: The "Lock" prompt appears every time an audio stream starts.  So it would appear upon switching tracks or after fast-forwarding / rewinding in ASIO / WASAPI / DSD mode, and upon such things as Skype coming up with a new message.
